Amalfi Coast Private Driver is not a company with a fleet and a switchboard: it is the personal service of one driver from the coast, Gerardo Proto, who introduces himself on the site as Jerry. He publishes no price list, and that is the first thing to know before you write to him.
What it is
A one-man business with an Italian VAT number, based on the Amalfi Coast and working across Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Praiano, Naples, Salerno, Sorrento and Rome. The footer declares a registered address in Amalfi and an NCC licence issued by the council of Montecorvino Pugliano, with a secondary garage on the coast. The site describes a long earlier career driving for luxury hotels and then for larger NCC firms, and states that trusted outside colleagues step in for the more complex requests.
There is one vehicle: a black Mercedes Vito with leather interiors. The home page says up to 7 passengers, the dedicated page says 7 plus 1. Child seats on request, luggage space described as generous. Service languages: English, German and French.
He sells door-to-door transfers from airports, stations, ports, hotels and villas, shore excursions, tailor-made day tours and services for weddings and events. The routes he lists as most requested are Naples airport to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, and Naples–Positano with a stop at Pompeii.

What he publishes and what he does not
No prices. The site explains why, and the argument is reasonable: there is no meter, the figure is agreed beforehand and does not move for traffic, distance or time, unless you add stops or waiting. The downside is that you have nothing to compare before you write.
What he does publish is the booking policy, and it is clearer than many competitors':
| Period | Condition |
|---|---|
| Confirmation | 30% deposit on the total |
| High season, June–September | Full refund beyond 21 days; 50% from 20 to 11 days; no refund inside 10 |
| Low season, October–May | Full refund even cancelling the day before |
The home page carries a Google reviews widget with 68 ratings collected through an outside verification service, with no stated average score. The reviews shown mention the same driver again and again, which fits a one-man business.
The detail that counts
The site draws a precise line between two things many operators blur: the commentary along the road, which a driver may give, and a guided visit inside an archaeological site, which requires a licensed guide and which he states he can arrange separately. That is exactly where Italian law draws it, and hearing an operator say so is a good sign.
The other practical point is geography. With a base on the coast, a service starting in Naples includes the empty run up: if you are staying in Naples, the quote starts higher than a Naples NCC’s. If you are staying in Positano, Praiano or Amalfi, it is the other way round.
How to check him before you pay
Four things to ask in the first email or message, and to have confirmed in writing:
- that the NCC licence published is the one belonging to the vehicle that turns up, registration included;
- the total figure with stops included, the cost of an hour’s waiting and who pays any ferries or parking;
- whether the driver assigned is him or an outside colleague, and in which vehicle;
- if you need a language other than English, explicit confirmation that it will be the service language.
Always send the exact meeting point, the flight or train time and the number of bags: the quote request page asks for precisely that, and it is why a quote arrives closed rather than as “from €300”.

The day trip to Positano and Amalfi from Naples costs €65 per person on GetYourGuide and €53.10 by minivan on Tiqets: four people stay under €270, two under €140. A private NCC, with no price list, will struggle to go below those figures for a couple.
The point of Amalfi Coast Private Driver lies elsewhere: you are staying in a villa only reachable with someone who knows the exact drop-off, you land at six in the morning, or you are travelling with luggage and elderly relatives on the Amalfi coast road. The verdict
Honest about what it is: one driver, one vehicle, a tailor-made quote and written cancellation rules. It makes sense if you are starting from or arriving on the coast, far less if you are based in Naples. If you want rates published in advance, read the Naples Private Driver review or the See Amalfi Coast review, which sells fixed-price packages with admissions and a guide.
The full picture on licences, restricted-traffic zones and benchmark rates is on the private driver and NCC page; every listing is in the index of operators and platforms.
Questions people ask
Who is Amalfi Coast Private Driver?
It is the personal service of Gerardo Proto, known as Jerry, a private driver based on the Amalfi Coast. The site declares an Italian VAT number and presents a one-man business, with outside colleagues for bigger requests.
How much does a transfer or a tour cost?
The operator publishes no price list: the price is agreed before the service, once you send the pick-up point, destination, date, time, number of passengers, luggage and stops. The site insists there is no meter.
What vehicle does he use?
A black 7-seat Mercedes Vito with leather interiors; the home page gives the capacity as up to 7 passengers. Child seats are requested at booking.
What languages does the driver speak?
The site states English, German and French. Italian is the operator’s first language but is not listed among the service languages: if you need it, ask when you request the quote.
How does cancellation work?
A 30% deposit is needed to confirm. June to September: full refund beyond 21 days, 50% from 20 to 11 days, nothing inside 10. October to May the site promises a full refund even the day before.
Can the driver guide me round Pompeii?
No. The site separates commentary along the road from a guided visit inside a site, for which it states it can arrange a licensed guide on request.
Does it make sense if you are staying in Naples?
Less so: the base is on the coast, so the empty run up to Naples weighs on the quote. From Naples it is worth looking at a Naples NCC or the shared tour.
