Naples Boat Experience: what you actually buy, and on what terms

Naples Boat Experience is a brand, not a company: the site’s terms name Davide Blasio as the operator and contractual counterparty, working under occasional charter rules as set out in Italian law, with a maximum of 42 outings a year, each one declared to the harbour master’s office and to the tax authority. It is a perfectly legal and very common arrangement in the Gulf, but it changes how you book: you sign the contract on board, not online.

What kind of operator it is

The site presents itself as a private charter with a mixed fleet — yachts, fast speedboats, catamarans and wooden gozzi — and sells days towards Capri, Ischia, Procida, the Sorrento peninsula and the Amalfi Coast, plus two short outings in the Gulf. It is not an agency with a shopfront and it is not a licensed guide: on board there is a skipper, who talks you through the coast. The contact details published are a mobile number, an email address and a certified email address.

One technical note the operator writes itself, and which bears repeating: the photos on the listings may not match the boat actually used, because vessels are assigned by availability and group size. If you chose on the strength of the model, ask for confirmation first.

What it publishes and what it costs

The price list is per boat and in euro. These are the minimum prices published on the official site:

The sunset outing lists as included the skipper, fuel, snacks and drinks, water, a sun awning, a first aid kit, insurance, safety equipment, a deck shower, snorkelling masks, Spotify Premium and a USB socket. Beach towels, sunscreen and sunglasses are excluded. Drinks are agreed after booking.

How booking works

This is the biggest difference from buying on a platform. The terms are explicit: sending the form does not create a binding booking. The operator checks availability, contacts you by email or WhatsApp and gives you the final time, any deposit and the cancellation rules case by case. The contract is completed when you sign the occasional charter on board, and payment happens there, in cash or by bank transfer.

The flip side is written by the operator itself: with no online payment there is no prepayment to lose, but there is no standard cancellation policy to read beforehand either. You have to get it in writing.

On liability, the terms exclude indirect losses — a missed flight, failing to reboard a cruise ship, hotel costs — and cap compensation at what you paid for the outing. If you are arriving off a cruise with eight hours ashore, that is the clause that weighs most: keep it in mind when choosing between a private boat and an excursion with a return guarantee.

The two boarding points

There are two of them and they are not the same thing. Mergellina, on via Francesco Caracciolo, and Borgo Marinari, at the Scale Lucio Dalla below Castel dell’Ovo. How it compares with a tour on the platforms

The day to Capri is the cleanest comparison. On the partner platforms the same kind of day is sold by the seat: prices checked regularly.

Do the sums: €549 per boat becomes about €110 a head with five people, €92 with six. Above four people the private boat holds up and gives you your own itinerary and timings; with two or three it does not, and a seat on a shared speedboat is the better buy. How to check before you pay

• Ask for the boat’s name, its length and the maximum number of passengers authorised.
• Get written confirmation that the price is per boat and what it covers, fuel included.
• Ask whether landing taxes apply (Capri and Procida charge them) and whether they are on you.
• Ask the bad-weather rule: postponement, refund or nothing.
• Check that the occasional charter contract exists and that you sign it before casting off.

Naples Boat Experience is one of the few operators in the Gulf that publishes a complete price list and plainly written terms, including the part many leave out: the limit of 42 outings a year. It works for a group of four to eight who want their own timings and know how to negotiate by message.
