NapleSeaTour is one person’s business: the site introduces Dario, a licensed captain who grew up among the moorings of Borgo Marinari, with more than ten claimed years in the trade. The boat is a lancetta, the traditional hull of the Gulf, and it seats nine. This is not a luxury charter and does not try to be: it is the closest thing left to the boat trip Neapolitans took before the sea became a product.

What kind of operator it is

A micro-business hiring out a boat with its skipper, based permanently at the Borgo Marinari jetty, at the foot of Castel dell’Ovo. It sells two things: single seats on fixed-time outings and the whole boat on charter. The languages are Italian and English, and the guide is the captain himself — not a tourist guide licensed by the Regione Campania, a distinction that matters if you want the history rather than the sea.

The site carries no VAT number, no company name, no privacy policy and no general terms of sale. That is not an accusation: it is the standard profile of the very small operator who works over WhatsApp. It does mean that anything you want in writing you have to ask for by message.

The price list, with a warning

The fares are published, which is already more than half the competition manages. Be careful, though: both the shared page and the private page repeat the price list twice, and the two blocks do not match. Below is the first one.

In the second block sunset and sunrise drop to €50, the dolce vita to €75 shared and €340 private, and the full coast lasts 2 hours. This is not a price range: they are two different price lists on the same page. Get written confirmation of the one that applies to your date.

Included on board: water, soft drinks, snorkelling masks and the captain’s commentary. Some outings add prosecco or an aperitivo. Bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and sunglasses: they are not provided.

The route, stop by stop

The full coast is the benchmark outing and it is worth knowing what it covers, because it is almost identical across everything sold at Borgo Marinari. You leave the jetty, pass beneath Castel dell’Ovo and in front of Santa Lucia — the ground of ancient Parthenope — then the seafront, Mergellina and the Posillipo hill with Palazzo Donn’Anna, Villa Lauro and Villa Volpicelli. The swim stop is in the Baia del Cenito, then you reach Marechiaro and, on the longer loop, the islet of Gaiola.

Ninety minutes is enough to reach Marechiaro and come back with a swim in between. If you want two real stops, you need the three hours. The half hour in the dark, on the other hand, is more a postcard than a trip: it only makes sense inside an evening already planned, as on the page about Naples in the evening and at night.

How it compares with the platforms

In the Gulf of Naples the partner platforms mostly cover the long day and the themed outing; the short coastal trip is still close to a local-operator monopoly. Prices checked regularly.

How to check before you pay

• Ask by message for the final price, the duration and whether the figure is per person or per boat: on the site the two get muddled.
• Ask for the charter licence and the hull’s maximum authorised number of passengers.
• Ask whether the deposit is refundable and with how much notice.
• Ask what happens in rough seas and who decides: the written rule mentions rescheduling or a refund, with no deadlines.
• If you are travelling with small children, check first: under-threes do not come aboard.

NapleSeaTour works if you want ninety minutes at sea from the centre of Naples, nine people maximum, with a captain who knows the Santa Lucia–Gaiola stretch by heart. It is the outing you slot into a day that already has other things in it, not the trip that fills it.
