Sea Horse Luxury Boat: the day aboard a gozzo on the coast, checked

One of the few boat operators on the Amalfi Coast that publishes its prices: €89.88 for four hours, €105.74 for six from Amalfi, €74.02 for the sunset run. It does not leave from Sorrento and it does not leave from Naples: here is how to fit it into your day.

Sea Horse Luxury Boat is a boat operator based in Amalfi selling both shared small-group tours and private charters, and it has a quality that is rare in this market: it publishes its prices. Four hours from Amalfi costs €89.88 per person, six hours €105.74, the sunset run towards Positano €74.02, the day out to Capri €190.33. The limit to know straight away is geographical: it does not leave from Naples and it does not leave from Sorrento, whatever you read elsewhere. You have to be on the coast already.

What it is

The operating base is at Via Lungomare dei Cavalieri 5 in Amalfi, a short walk from the harbour where the ferries berth. The site tells the story of a firm founded a few years ago by Alessandro and Manuela, specialising in the hire of boats and the coast’s traditional gozzi; the company name Sea Horse S.r.l. surfaces through the link the operator itself publishes to its own supplier page on GetYourGuide. The home page carries declared counters — more than 6,000 customers and four years in business — which remain the company’s own claims rather than figures a third party can check: the VAT number, for one, is not shown.

The fleet as listed mixes Raffaelli Typhoon Day speedboats, Nautica Pinto gozzi built by the Cantieri Pinto yard in Amalfi and traditional coastal gozzi. For the group tours the listing describes a wooden gozzo of roughly 10 to 12 metres, with a toilet and a shower on board.

What it publishes and what it costs

The price list is on the site, not behind a quote. Bookings run through FareHarbor, so your voucher and receipt arrive automatically.

The group tour includes the crew of skipper and hostess, a swim stop with mask and snorkel, access to small beaches such as La Porta and the Runghetiello cave, a pass by the Grotta di Sant’Andrea, the Arco degli Innamorati and the Fiordo di Furore, drinks on board (prosecco, limoncello, beer, soft drinks), snacks, a towel, a toilet, a shower, a sun awning and life jackets. The age range given is 5 to 80: this is not the right boat if you are travelling with babies.

How the day works

For Amalfi and Positano you meet at the harbour, and the exact meeting point is on your voucher. The six-hour tour adds the landing in Positano over the four-hour one: if this is your only day on the coast, take the long one, because Positano looks different from the shore. The day to Capri has departures given as 9:30 from Amalfi and 10:00 from Positano and puts together caves, a swim and free time on the island: it is the only way to see Capri without going back to Naples, but it is also the priciest item on the shared price list.

The rest of the logistics is on you: to reach Amalfi or Positano from Naples you need the SITA Sud buses from the Sorrento peninsula or the seasonal ferry, and the full picture is in the Amalfi Coast in a day and in getting around.

How to check before you pay

The contract is published, so the checking is short but not nil. Make sure your voucher states the exact basis: group tours are paid in full at booking, private ones allow a 50% deposit with the balance due within 24 hours. The no-charge cancellation window is 24 hours, after which there is no refund: if your arrival on the coast depends on a train or a flight, book with some slack. When the sea is unusable the operator promises a full refund or a change of date, but the call comes in the morning: keep a plan B on land. If what you want instead is a private charter with a more elaborate contract and a tailored quote, the natural comparison is Exclusive Cruises; if you need a driver rather than a boat, look at Amalfi Coast Day Tours.

Against the package on GetYourGuide

The platforms sell the same coast as a “day from Naples”: coach to the harbour, shared boat, guaranteed return. Prices checked regularly.

Same product, platforms compared

The sum is simple. If you are setting out from Naples, the package includes the transfer and the assistance for figures close to Sea Horse’s, so it wins almost every time. If you are staying in Amalfi, Positano or Salerno, the Sea Horse tour costs you the same but keeps you longer on the water, with ten people instead of thirty. For the range of formats and prices among the Gulf’s boats there is boat tours in the Gulf of Naples, while for refunds and support on the partner side read the GetYourGuide review. If the island is your goal, compare it with Capri in a day.

The verdict

The strong point is transparency: prices, inclusions, group size, payment terms and the bad-weather policy are all written down, and that allows an honest comparison with the platforms. The weak points are the absence of company details in plain sight on the site, the self-declared customer counters and the geography: with no departures from Naples or Sorrento, the tour only works if you are on the coast already. For anyone spending at least a night there, it is one of the soundest mid-range options.
